Bridal Show Recap!

Thank you to all who participated in the September 25th PWG Bridal Show at the beautiful Embassy Suites - Brier Creek. We estimate around 190 brides with a total of 440 to 480 attendees plus the vendors were there (The actual number of leads will be available in 7-10 days after the show once it is processed by our corporate office).

Special thanks to Mike Wall and the entire staff at the Embassy Suites - Brier Creek for allowing PWG to host our show for the first time in their facility. It's such a nice place! A big thank you to Andy Karras and his team at A Special Event for always providing tables, chairs and linens. And of course - thank you to our show vendors. You made our brides and guests feel special and welcome while creating wonderful booths. Jaime and I truly appreciate all of you!

CONGRATULATIONS...

The Rules of Social Media

Here's a little of what we learned about Social Media while at the Wedding MBA

21 Social Media Rules

(Seminar given by Sonny Ganguly, CMO Wedding Wire)

Owning your social media real estate is as valuable as owning your own real estate: example, do you own your Facebook or Twitter domain?

Social Media doesn't replace other forms of marketing, it's just an extension of what you do.

People want relevant information and make sure you include links!

Like in the real world, it isn't good to just talk about yourself. Make sure you include others in your Facebook and Twitter posts.

Treat your followers extra nice and they will return the favor.

Twitter Bird and Logo

6 People like positivity... positive tweets are shared more!

The number of followers you have doesn't matter, it's your ability to influence them that does. Create messages that spread multiple degrees.

A high quantity of messages doesn't equal quality messages. Provide golden nuggets of information.

It's easy to be heard in social media when no one else is talking!

10 Write simply and plainly.

11 Your audience is larger than just brides, grooms and wedding professionals. People will share content based on connections.

12 If you want your followers to take action, you have to ask for it. Encourage your followers to share what you tweet!

13 Social media isn't about checking off a box, it takes time to build a following. Give it at least 3 months, it will take time.

14 Don't focus on bringing in dollars but focus on strengthening relationships, the dollars will follow, don't see your customer as a money tree.

15 We share the most random stuff on earth and people care, we live in a world that shares everything. When you first tried something before social media, would you call and tell your friends, family or colleagues about how great it was? Now you can share it through social media.

16 Social media shouldn't just live on social media sites. Cross promote your social media presence, ever heard of tweet deck?

17 People are willing to have a relationship with your company, it's natural. Did you know Coca Cola is the #1 fan page on Facebook?

18 Social Media allows us to humanize our wedding business, you are sharing the real face behind the business.

19 People are talking about you behind your back, now you can know about it. Go to

search.twitter.com and you will be able to see who is tweeting about you in real time.

20 You have to want it... just because you build it doesn't mean they will come.

21 A good lesson from Vegas...Go all in, not half way!

Whatever you do, social media wise, do it well. You don't have to do all social media avenues but make sure you are investing in one.

Again Social Media should never replace your marketing efforts,

it should be an extension of it.

Your chance to tell us about YOU!

This is a new section of our newsletter that will give you, our readers, a chance to tell everyone in the wedding industry a fun fact about yourself that no one else knows... were you a cheerleader in high school? Have you traveled to a foreign land? Did you play an instrument as a child or have you won any special awards or accolades? Let us know something about you that is unique to you and we will feature one wedding professional each week. So go ahead and send us a tidbit about yourself!

Did you know...?

... that Gail (Perfect Wedding Guide) worked for Rockwell International (the company that built the orbiters for the Space Shuttles) for 10 years and 3 days as Rockwell's Community Relations and Employee Motivational Representative. She was fortunate enough to be there for the very first Space Shuttle launch and to get to know and work with many people who had worked on the Space Program since day one. Some of those people included Guenther Wendt, the last person crew members saw before the hatch was closed on all Mercury, Gemini and Apollo missions. Tom O'Malley, who pushed the button to launch the Atlas rocket that carried astronaut John Glenn into orbit. Astronaut Fred Haise, one of only 24 people to have flown to the moon. You may remember Fred from the movie and book "Apollo 13."

Wedding Industry News

To Whom It May Concern,

I was a successful, "by appointment only" wedding/event florist in upstate N.Y. for 15 plus years. I relocated to High Point 2 years ago with intentions of continuing my business. However, I have decided to retire from the flower industry, change career paths and move to Florida. I'm selling the contents of my business which include: SRC 54"x75" 115 volt flower cooler model-FS54SD (used for less than 2 years!), 35"x45" framed chalk board w/decorative easel, 72"x31" portable table, lots of inventory: assorted design bowls, baskets, tulle, fabric and satin ribbon, tape (floral wrap and oasis), glassware, decorative containers, hot glue, seashells,  wire, wreath forms,  topiary forms, Christmas, grapevine, permanent flowers and foliage, dried flowers, iron urns,  picture frames (used for table numbers and signage), assorted wooden and metal picks, pick machine, garland machine, metal wall sconces and plant hangers, decorative french wire shelves, 10'x10' white tent canopy with attachable side panels and zip-up front and back panel openings, 20 gold candelabras w/optional design bowl attachments and gold metal lamp shades, as well as 24" fuel cell candles - total height with candles up to 60", and more. I PREFER to sell the entire contents together, but will consider other options. All supplies have been packed and stored in plastic tubs - tubs are also included! All in great condition!  Value exceeds $10,000 - asking only $3,950 with hopes of a quick sale!

Please contact me if you are interested ASAP.

Sincerely,

Just want to say how happy I am with the ad in the latest issue of PWG. I haven't seen it yet but had great traffic on my website obviously from it. I got 147 hits yesterday with 71 from the Raleigh/Cary area. Looking forward to the next luncheon!
